Finding the correct tyre size for your car, motorcycle or van can be tricky to somone who is new to this proceedure, but in actual fact it is made simple because tyre sizes is simply broken down into different number codes for every attribute of the tyre. The sidewall is where all the information is stored about the size of your tyre and will be referenced when ordering a new set of tyres.

By looking at the tyre sidewall you will see a set of numbers and letters which gives us the tyre size, check this sample example: 205/65 R 15 87 R :

  • 205 Width of tyre in mm.
  • 65 The aspect ratio in % (the height of the sidewall divided by the tyre's width).
  • R The construction type of the trye (most tyres these days are radials).
  • 15 The diameter of the rim in inches.
  • 87 Load Index
  • R Speed Rating.
